Most importantly, one must stay away from any agency which shows on television. It is cheap to send an advert to the television networks and show it on television. These networks have no need of doing background research on the individual or company who presented the advert. It is even cheaper to speak with strangers who provide services over the phone. One needs to see proof of the existence of an agency and their track record before trusting it. We don’t say that all the debt consolidation, debt consolidation counseling or debt consolidation loans are bad, but just choose them with caution.
Avoid agencies that ask for your credit card number or bank account number! Especially over the phone and even in person; a phony person can appear convincing in person with a building and employees.
Among other things, reliable agencies do not take the first month’s payment. And neither do they charge high fees (above $20) or do they request for a contribution of any sort.
